For painful knee arthritis which can not be managed non-operatively I perform partial or total knee replacement surgery. For localised arthritis partial knee replacement using the Oxford system is associated with quicker recovery and better function. For more extensive arthritis total knee replacement is the best option.
Years of hard work, involvement in sport or previous injury/surgery can damage the lining cartilage of the knee. In order to prevent this wear and tear progressing to arthritis requiring joint replacement it is sometimes helpful to alter knee alignment. This can be achieved with an operation called an osteotomy.
Fitness training and sport are essential to the physical and psychological well-being of many of my patients. Some knee injuries require time and rehabilitation, others may need surgery. One of my particular areas of expertise is Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction
